Women in Food: 10 Questions with Sherrie from With Food + Love

Women in Food: 10 Questions with Sherrie from With Food + Love

Women in Food: Vegetarian foods, pop up dinners and gardening: With Food + Love

Today's women in food post comes from a recommendation from my dietitian friend Alex from Delish Knowledge (if you aren't already following Alex, you should be. Also, buy her cookbook). Sherrie from With Food + Love has a very, very cool vibe. Not only does she have a gorgeous style of photography and editing but her answers to some of these 10 questions are making me feel a bit like kindred spirits. If you caught my interview on Real Talk RD podcast, you heard me say basically the same thing that Sherrie says: I am freaking over the unicorn bowl everything layered smoothie situation. And even though I've never met Sherrie, I get the feeling there's no BS to her and I love it.

"Please, please stop eating activated-charcoal."

1. Tell us about yourself and your business.

I'm a former health coach turned food writer, photographer and pop-up chef. I also write the naturally gluten-free and vegetarian food blog, With Food + Love .

2. If you could define your food philosophy in one sentence it would be?

I think Michael Pollan said it best, “Eat Food. Not too much. Mostly Plants”.

3. What are your 3 must have foods in your kitchen?

Olive oil, garlic and salt. I cannot cook without those things. Fresh herbs! I need those too.

4. It's your birthday. What are you eating?

Pizza. Pizza and red wine, always.

5. Signature cocktail?

I'm usually down with anything gin-based. This Basil Tom Collins is always on repeat in the summertime.

6. Food you can't like no matter how hard you try?

Mushrooms - sorry not sorry.

7. What are your go-to resources for all things food? (websites/magazines/groceries etc.)

Some favorites of mine are: Cherry Bombe Magazine, MindBodyGreen, The Chalkboard Mag, Bon Appetit Magazine and Viceland. Right now I'm also loving Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat by, Samin Nosrat. And my favorite cooking resource is The Vegetarian Flavor Bible by, Karen Page.

8. Food fad you wish would die a horrible death?

I'm all about naturally colored, pretty food, but I'm really over unnecessary multiple-step ombre smoothies, anything that has to do with unicorns and charcoal-infused food. Please, please stop eating activated-charcoal. Unless it's taken medicinally, this shouldn't be ingested. It is literally absorbing the nutrients, vitamins and minerals you are eating along with it.

9. Must have kitchen tool?

My Wolf Gourmet blender. I use it (many times) everyday.

10. What's the one thing you learned this year that changed the way you think about food?

Since becoming an avid gardener, I think a lot more about food waste. And how to repurpose food that would otherwise be scraps. At any given time I have a half dozen jars on my counter fermenting and infusing.
